Weir Highlights Canadian Contingent At Masters

The PGA Tour's first major of the season gets underway Thursday.

Bright's Grove's Mike Weir will be one of three Canadians teeing off at the annual Masters tournament in Augusta, Georgia.

He made a hole-in-one on the fourth hole during Wednesday's par three contest before it was cancelled due to poor weather.

Weir will tee off at 8:22am in a group with Billy Hurley III and Scott Piercy.

He has earned a lifetime exemption to the event after winning it in 2003. He defeated Len Mattiace in a one-hole playoff to become the first Canadian to win a major and the first lefty to win the Masters.

Adam Hadwin and MacKenzie Hughes are the other Canadians in the field.

It's the first time since 1968 the tournament has featured three Canucks. George Knudson, Al Balding, and Gary Cowan took part in the Masters that year.

Weir and Knudson are tied for the most wins on the PGA Tour by a Canadian at eight.
