Lambton College Students Tested In Mock Scenario (VIDEO & GALLERY)

A mass casualty simulation was staged at Sarnia's Progressive Auto Sales Arena Thursday morning.

Lambton College paramedic, police, fire, nursing and social service worker students were put to the test.

Paramedic Program Coordinator Ray Pettigrew says the scenario wraps up the trauma section of the second semester program for first year students.

"This gives them an opportunity to showcase their skills and deal with a large number of patients, that they might have to deal with in real life situations," says Pettigrew. "It's a really big event for them, students are very excited and it has kind of taken on a life of its own in the sense that it's something they always look forward to every year. Second year students come back and assist as well. It's a really big paramedic community event."

Lambton EMS was on site with vehicles and equipment and Lambton OPP officers acted as mentors for criminal justice students.

The disaster was extraordinary, with a Zamboni driver hitting a natural gas line, causing an explosion.

Victims, played by Great Lakes Secondary School drama students, were scattered throughout the stands requiring various degrees of care.
