Bluewater Granfondo Among Canada's Best

The Bluewater International Granfondo is gaining some national attention.

Despite entering just its second year, it was listed as the 11th best granfondo in Canada by granfondoguide.com.

The 2017 edition is on August 6, and features a scenic 50 km, 100 km and 150 km routes through Lambton County

Tourism Sarnia-Lambton's Vicky Praill says the designation is a real feather in their cap.

"It's an honour to be classified with those other granfondos, most of which have been running much longer than ours has," says Praill. "To be in the same category as some of those races, and to be named in the top 11 in Canada is a tremendous feet for us."

The online list had the Bluewater International Granfondo ranked fourth in the province behind the PwC Epic Tour Halton Granfondo, Granfondo Ottawa, and the Subaru Centurion Blue Mountains.

Organizers are expecting about 750 cyclists this summer, 250 more than the inaugural year. People have signed up from as far as Florida to take part.

The $30,000 raised last year was split between St. Joseph’s Hospice and Palliative Care at Bluewater Health.

Granfondo is an Italian word which means "great big race." You can register at www.bigf.ca.
