SIU Investigating After Sarnia Man Bit By Police Dog

A 30-year-old Sarnia man has been charged following an incident in Strathroy-Caradoc that's now under investigation by Ontario's Special Investigations Unit.

Middlesex OPP responded to the report of a theft in progress in the area of Centre Rd. and Egremont Dr. around 4am Thursday.

Sergeant Dave Rektor says when officers, including the OPP's Canine Unit, arrived on scene a male party was located and arrested.

The man has been charged with break and enter and possession of stolen property under $5,000.

SIU Spokesperson Monica Hudon says while officers were arresting the male suspect, after finding him in a nearby field, a police dog bit the man.

He was taken to hospital for treatment of the bite.

Three SIU investigators and one forensic investigator are examining the incident.

Anyone with information about the incident is asked to call the lead investigator at 1-800-787-8529. Video evidence related to this incident can be uploaded through the SIU website.

The SIU is an arm's length agency that investigates reports involving police where there has been death, serious injury or allegations of sexual assault.
