Petrolia Compost Day Planned Saturday

The Town of Petrolia has come up with a temporary solution following the sudden closure of its compost site.

On Saturday, April 22, yard and garden waste will be accepted at the Waste Management site on Progress Dr. from 10am until 2pm.

CAO Manny Baron says only yard and garden waste and brush will be accepted.

"Leaves, grass clippings, garden waste, logs and stumps will be accepted," he says. "Tree limbs and branches cannot exceed four inches in diameter and sod, soil, sand and stones will not be accepted. Yard waste must be separated from brush and only paper bags will be accepted."

You will have to provide proof that you do live in Petrolia with ID such as a driver's license.

The Petrolia compost site was closed April 4 after the Ministry of the Environment issued several orders including fencing off the perimeter , changing the hours of operation, testing incoming and outgoing compost and providing extensive staff training.

The town says that's cost prohibitive and is mulling over its options.
