Lambton County Recognized For Habitat Projects

Lambton County has received the Ontario Municipal Social Service Association's Local Champion Award in recognition of two pilot project partnerships with Habitat for Humanity Sarnia-Lambton.

In 2015-16, the Lambton Build initiative saw 29 Ontario Works recipients volunteer over 2,400 hours to a Habitat home-building project.

The volunteers gained hands-on experience that enhanced their employable skillset.

As well, Ontario Works recipients offered low-cost, basic home maintenance and repair to help keep low income individuals and families in their homes.

Volunteers completed 24 projects for 17 households in 2016 through the Habitat Handyman program.

Lambton's pilot projects will be highlighted at the social service association's leadership symposium in Toronto May 28 to May 30.
