Popular Kids Fishing Day Filling Up Fast

One of the most popular kids' events of the spring takes place May 27.

The Bluewater Anglers host their annual Kids Training Day at their Point Edward hatchery from 10am until 2pm.

Pre-registration is required.

Spokesman John Klazinga says kids are taught basic fishing techniques before dropping their lines into the hatchery pond.

"If you could picture a little six-year-old girl with a 20 lb fish at the end of her line, it's unbelievable," he says. "Even we as volunteers get chills down our spine watching this. Our hopes are that the kids learn the love of fishing and getting outdoors and hopefully join our club one day in the future."

Members of the Canadian Coast Guard, the OPP and RCMP Marine Units and Lambton Children's Safety Village will be on hand with the Point Edward Optimists providing free hotdogs and pop.

You must sign up a child aged 6 to 12 years of age beforehand.
