Police Seize Machete, Drugs From Cyclist

A 29-year-old Kettle Point man is facing weapon and drug charges after being stopped by Sarnia police early Saturday morning.

Officers on routine patrol around 1:50am near Wellington St. and Walnut Ave., spotted a man riding a bicycle with no headlight on the sidewalk.

A search of the suspect, who had an outstanding warrant, allegedly found a large machete, and a laptop case containing drug paraphernalia, including new and used syringes, tin spoons, sterile water, and alcohol swabs.

Police say less than a gram each of suspected crystal methamphetamine and cannabis marijuana was also allegedly found on the suspect.

Jacob Lee Kaczanowski is charged with public mischief, possession of a weapon dangerous to the public peace, possession of a concealed weapon, possession of a schedule one and two substance, and three counts of breach of probation.

He was held pending a bail hearing.

Sarnia police said the investigation began on May 29 after the victim was allegedly attacked by acquaintances at a residence near Tashmoo Avenue and Christopher Drive at Aamjiwnaang First Nation.
