Discovery Week Welcomes Medical Students

Fourteen medical students from Western University Schulich School of Medicine and Dentistry are in Sarnia Lambton this week.

The students will take part in Discovery Week; a hands-on learning experience in rural and regional healthcare.

They're shadowing physicians and visiting patients at Bluewater Health, North Lambton Community Health Centre and Rapids Family Health Team.

Health Team Executive Director Lynn Laidler says it's a win-win situation.

"This week gives students not only the opportunity to see how a Family Health Team supports primary care, but is also a great introduction to the Sarnia Lambton Community," Laidler says. "Many of our students have never been to Sarnia and we hope this week allows us to not only showcase our model of care but our community as well."

The medical students will also spend time in emergency departments, ambulatory care clinics and operating rooms, showcasing the opportunities of living and working in our community.
