Blitz Nabs Dozens Of Distracted Drivers

Sarnia police ticketed 40 drivers during a two day distracted driving blitz. Constable Nelson Amaral says the Traffic Unit, COPPS Unit and Community Services Division conducted the safety initiative Tuesday and Wednesday. Of the 40 drivers, 23 were female and 17 male. Constable Amaral says the drivers ranged in age from 18 to 69 years old.

Last year during a one day blitz, Sarnia police issued over 30 tickets to drivers for using a handheld communication device. The offence of distracted driving carries a fine of $490 and a three demerit points. Sarnia police also issued ten other tickets for various offences under the Highway Traffic Act.
