Residents Launch Transit Petition

A couple of Sarnia Transit users hope a petition will prompt city council to rethink the new summer schedule -- which came into effect Monday.

Buses on Route 9 now run every 30 minutes instead of every 15 and the hourly bus to Heritage Park is by request only.

Terry Anderson and Brian Campbell were collecting signatures in front of Sarnia City Hall Thursday morning from residents who oppose the seasonal cutbacks.

Anderson says they really impact seniors.

"The older folks can't stand the heat," says Anderson. "We need a bus every 15 minutes during the week. We want our service back."

Campbell, who lives off of Vidal St., says he won't be buying any frozen food from the grocery store this summer.

"I went to No frills yesterday and it took me 2.5 hours to get there and back with my groceries," says Campbell.

Anderson says she will be back at city hall Friday from 9am until noon collection more signatures.

The summer schedule runs until the weekend before Labour Day.
