It's a spellbinding history of Sarnia's 177-year-old fire department.
Phil Egan's "Walking Through Fire: The History of Sarnia's Bravest" book launch will be held Saturday, July 15 from 10am until 3pm at the East St. fire hall.
At 11am, a special presentation will be made to Sarnia Fire Chief John Kingyens and Port Huron Chief Daniel Mainguy.
"Sarnia would have burnt to the ground in the 1860's but for the aid of the Port Huron Fire Department," says Egan. "And you couldn't really tell the history of the department without describing what was happening in the town and city along the way."
It's the first book written by the Sarnia Historical Society, of which Egan is editor.
He pays tribute to retired firefighter Kevin McHarg who assisted him with writing the 290-page book.
Sarnia Fire and Rescue will also introduce its new inflatable and accessible fire safety house. The book will be for sale at the Bookeeper in Sarnia's Northgate Plaza.
