Formal Site Proposed For Scattering Of Cremated Remains

There may soon be a site in Sarnia specifically designated for the use of scattering cremated remains. Council will consider a recommendation to approve a concept plan for such a site at the "Point Lands" along the St. Clair River. Mayor Mike Bradley says if people wish to use that location to scatter ashes, they could do so without being worried that they may be violating any provincial or municipal rules. "People do scatter ashes we know that, they want to do that in a favourite spot of their loved one," says Bradley. "For cultural and other reasons people have come forward saying they would like to have a formal spot within the city. It's becoming a more common practice elsewhere, and it seems to be very respectful. It can give much more meaning with benches and trees and a formal way to dispose of the ashes into the river, to help make it a more meaningful event." Bradley says cost for the site would be minimal and donations from the community would also help cover costs. Council meets in regular session at 4pm Monday, July 31.
