Sarnia-Lambton Gets $7M From Gas Tax Fund

Sarnia-Lambton's share of federal gas tax funding this year amounts to just over $7-million.

Of that amount, the County of Lambton receives nearly $3.9-million and the City of Sarnia gets $2.2-million.

Sarnia-Lambton MP Marilyn Gladu says local municipalities know their infrastructure needs best, and the structure of the federal gas tax fund allows them to disperse funding to match local priorities.

"This could include public transit, highways, bridges and other transportation-linked projects," says Gladu. "After hearing directly from our municipalities about the need for more funding at the recent Infrastructure Roundtable I organized, I am pleased to support this announcement for our community and will continue to work hard to ensure Sarnia-Lambton’s needs are met at the federal level.”

Other municipalities to receive funding include: St. Clair Township at $441,000, Plympton-Wyoming $230,000, Petrolia $168,000, Enniskillen $89,000, Point Edward receives nearly $62,000 and Oil Springs $21,000.

Every year, the gas tax fund provides over $2-billion and supports approximately 2,500 projects in communities across Canada.
