Clinics To Address Need For Summertime Blood Demand

Canadian Blood Services is holding a pair of clinics in Sarnia this month to keep up with increased summer demand.

Spokesperson Stephanie Wilkinson says all blood types are needed, especially O Negative which is the universal donor.

"It can take up to 50 different donors to support one person that's severely injured in a car crash," says Wilkinson. "It's also used a lot by people going through cancer treatments, and other people require blood products on an ongoing basis for treating different injuries or illnesses. So, the need is definitely constant."

Wilkinson says during the summer, people are usually travelling more, and there's typically an increase in the number of crashes on roadways and waterways.

Clinics are being held Tuesday, August 15 from 3pm-8pm at the Dante Club, and Saturday, August 19 from 9am until 1pm at Temple Baptist Church.
