Golden K Kiwanis Dedicate New Pavilion

There was a break in the rain Tuesday morning, just long enough to dedicate the new Sarnia-Lambton Golden K Kiwanis Legacy Pavilion.

President Mike Shimmin welcomed club members and local dignitaries to officially unveil the new feature in the southeast corner of McGibbon Park, adjacent to the Lochiel Kiwanis Community Centre.

"This pavilion is a gift to the citizens of the City of Sarnia in recognition of 25 years of dedicated service by our club to the children and youth in the community," Shimmin told the crowd.

Past President Bob Lutz says the fully accessible pavilion, which includes a 22 x 25 ft concrete pad and sail-cloth sun shade, cost about $15,000.

"Our building is used by the brain injury and stroke recovery group," says Lutz. "They have a lot of walkers and wheelchairs, as do our members, so it was really important for us to have it fully accessible."

Lutz says the pavilion can be used as a shaded outdoor activity area for summer programming for children and youth in the park, a performance stage, picnic area and platform for Tai Chi.

The Golden K Kiwanis celebrated its silver anniversary in 2015.
