Great Lakes Secondary School Construction To Begin Shortly

Construction at the Great Lakes Secondary School (GLSS) permanent site is expected to begin early this fall.

The Lambton Kent District School Board (LKDSB) has awarded the tender to Jasper Construction Corp. of Concord, Ontario to complete the second phase of the renovation and addition at the former St. Clair High School.

The project has an estimated $23.4-million price tag, for which the board received a $10.3-million capital investment from the Ministry of Education.

The board will will kick in $13.1-million with the total project cost including demolition estimated at $24.5-million.

Great Lakes Secondary will have a new auditorium, Indigenous community room, updated classrooms and accessibility improvements.

Demolition is underway and is expected to wrap up in September.

Students will return to the building in September of 2018.

Sarnia police said the investigation began on May 29 after the victim was allegedly attacked by acquaintances at a residence near Tashmoo Avenue and Christopher Drive at Aamjiwnaang First Nation.
