Dozens Of New Teachers Hired By Public School Board

Lambton Kent District School Board Director Jim Costello says a high number of retirements has resulted in the hiring of 31 elementary and 20 new secondary teachers for the upcoming school year.

"This is an up year for us in hiring," says Costello. "We were able to move a lot of people off the long-term occasional list into contract jobs. That, in turn, allowed us to replenish our occasional list. It's great for our system to have new young teachers in our classrooms. It's also great for them and their families and their careers to get them underway and keep them in this region."

There will be about 1,500 teachers on the public board's payroll this year.
