Alleged Drunk Driver Disregards Warnings

Two warnings weren't enough to convince a Wallaceburg man not to drink and drive Saturday.

Lambton OPP were called to investigate a disturbance at a licensed restaurant in the 300-block of Lyndoch St. in Corunna around 7pm.

Police say their investigation revealed that a concerned citizen had approached a pair of intoxicated individuals -- who appeared to be attempting to leave in a GMC Jimmy -- and suggested they take a cab.

Constable Chris Doupe says when it became evident the couple planned to leave on their own anyway, officers responded and once again emphasized the importance of not driving while impaired.

He says the couple ended up leaving in a cab, but police were called back to the restaurant a short time later when the Jimmy was seen leaving the parking lot.

Police located the vehicle in the area of St. Clair Blvd. and St. Clair Pkwy. and allege the same man who had left the restaurant in a cab was behind the wheel.

The 57-year-old was arrested and charged with impaired operation of a motor vehicle and operating a motor vehicle over 80 mgs of alcohol per 100 ml of blood.

Police say a breath sample over twice the legal limit was provided and the man is scheduled to appear in Sarnia court September 25 to answer to the charges.
