Sarnia Sports HOF Induction Ceremony Saturday

The Sarnia-Lambton Sports Hall of Fame is inducting its class of 2017 during Saturday's 35th annual enshrinement dinner.

This year, 12 individuals and one team will be celebrated for their sports achievements.

Director Kevin Devine says the Hall of Fame, located at the Clearwater Arena, is a special part of the community.

"You hear about a lot of people that return back to Sarnia and say 'oh I can remember playing for him, or I remember watching her or seeing that team play'," says Devine.

"It's great to see them being recognized. You look at some of the past recipients for boys and girls that are coming out of high school and just establishing themselves in life, and some of the experiences they've had with volunteering or in sports and political clubs. Some of the resumes for these applicants are just outstanding for young people."

The dinner begins at 6pm at the Sarnia Golf and Curling Club.

Award winners include hockey player Jason Simon, rugby coach Collette McAuley, former SMAA Baseball chairman Joe Panik, and swimmer Koty Alkerton.
