UPDATE: Boaters Located After Catamaran Washes Ashore

The operators of a catamaran that was found washed ashore in Brights Grove have been accounted for.

The Sarnia Police Service says on Thursday, a lime green catamaran shattered into pieces as it washed ashore and struck the rocks.  Police weren't sure at the time if anyone was on boat, but a red cooler bag full of food was pulled from the water near the wreckage containing fresh food.

The Sarnia Police Service Emergency Response Unit, the Canadian Coast Guard and the American Coast Guard conducted a search in the area. Aerial support teams from Selfridge and Trenton also assisted.

Police say the boaters encountered troubles while operating the catamaran and were forced to abandon it. They then swam to shore and were later located in Lexington, Michigan.
