A state-of-the-art recycling plant is hoping to drive economic and environmental change in the community.
Sarnia’s ReVital Polymers held its grand opening Friday afternoon to showcase what makes the recycling facility one of the best in North America.
It’s the first and only plant Canada that combines a container recovery facility and a plastics recovery facility in one location. It works by processing consumer product containers from residential recycling programs, then it converts them into quality commodity resins that are used to manufacture high-value products. All plastic at the plant can be reused, and it never goes to a landfill.
“It’s a facility that recovers a wide-range of plastics,” says Chief Commercial Officer Keith Bechard. “It does it efficiently and in such a manner that those plastics are created for high-end markets like the automotive industry, consumer household industry and industrial products.”
The plant currently employs around 80 people, but Bechard says “for every job in this facility, there’s another seven jobs created supporting the work that goes on here.”
The 180,000 sq ft space was purchased earlier this spring by recycling industry veterans Tony Moucachen and Emmie Leung.
