New Operator Possible For Petrolia's Community Centre

The YMCA could take over operation of the Oil Heritage District Community Centre in Petrolia.

Following a series of community consultations in November, the Y will present a proposal to council in December.

YMCA Interim President and CEO Kathi Lomas McGee says members would get all programs and services in one place for one price. Subsidies would be provided to those unable to afford it.

"The town will remain the owner of the assets and they would contract the YMCA to operate The Centre," says Lomas McGee. "Where with YMCA fits is that we have been recognized in community health and fitness and aquatics. If the agreement is approved, we are fully committed to maintaining popular programming and partnerships that share out goal of building a Community of Health in Petrolia, and to consider all existing staff members first for available job openings."

There will be public consultations on November 15 and 17.
