$30M Hydro Transmission Line Upgrade Planned

Hydro One is undertaking a $30-million refurbishment of its 230 kV transmission line between Sarnia and London.

The 100 km line was built in the 1950s and is in need of upgrades.

Utility spokesperson Nancy Clark says work will include reinforcing steel structures, replacing U-bolts and optical ground wire, and mounding, cleaning and coating grillage foundations.

"Residents who live close to the line will see a variety of equipment come through there," says Clark. "We'll have large bucket trucks that will be helping with the work and it'll be quite an interesting project to watch unfold."

Work is expected to begin in January 2018 and will continue until the end of 2019.

No power interruptions are expected during that time.
