Kerry Fraser Diagnosed With Cancer

Retired NHL referee and Sarnia native Kerry Fraser says he's fighting an incurable form of cancer.

The 65-year-old has a rare chronic blood disorder called essential thrombocythemia, a disease in the leukemia family that can evolve into acute leukemia.

Fraser said he's been told it's possible that he could live a normal life for many years, adding he will now take extra precautions to keep his blood thinner and hopefully prevent blood clots that could affect his heart or brain.

Fraser retired in 2010 after 30 years as a referee in the league.
