More Local Jobs With Franchise Expansion

A $1.5-million development is planned for the former Rona Cashway location on Confederation St., just east of Indian Rd.

Property owner Lou Longo says a new Kentucky Fried Chicken restaurant will be built there in the next few months.

"This will be the second KFC location in Sarnia, they [the franchise owners] have another one at Colborne Rd. and Exmouth," says Longo.

Longo says they purchased the three acre property two-and-a-half years ago and demolished the former Rona Cashway store last year.

"We're building two stores. One for them and another one that is still available for lease. So we're looking for another quick service restaurant to take up the other side of the building. Come spring time we hope to have two new businesses there," he says. "It's pretty exciting."

Depending on the weather this winter and how construction goes, Longo expects the new KFC could open in March or April.

The new restaurant will employ between 25 to 30 people.
