Solemn Tribute For Veterans

Hundreds of candles will be placed at the Sarnia Legion Cenotaph Friday night in tribute to Canada's war veterans.

Branch 62 President Jim Burgess says participants are asked to gather at Sarnia City Hall between 7pm and 7:25pm for the seventh annual Candlelight Tribute.

"The candles are lit at Sarnia City Hall and we march down the street to the Cenotaph at the branch and all through the night local cadets stand vigil over the candles," says Burgess.

He says it's hoped as many as 500 candles will be placed for the vigil.

"You're able to purchase a candle in memory of a veteran and some people just buy them in memory of a loved one," says Burgess.

The candles are being sold for $5 dollars with proceeds to the Poppy Trust Fund.
