Former Sarnia Woman Charged With Animal Cruelty

A former Sarnia woman is facing seven animal cruelty charges after allegedly abandoning two dogs.

Agents with the Ontario Society for the Prevention of Cruelty to Animals attended a Sarnia home on September 27, to investigate a report of animal neglect.

Two dogs were found to be suffering from multiple untreated medical conditions and both were in distress.

The Sarnia and District Humane Society says the animals were removed and taken for treatment.

The woman, now living in Lucknow, was given a lifetime ban on owning any animals.

The charges include failing to provide adequate and appropriate medical attention, failing to provide adequate and appropriate food and water and permitting an animal to be in distress.

She's ordered to pay $500 for each of the seven counts of animal cruelty and $10,000 in restitution to the Sarnia and District Humane Society for medical costs.

The humane society says one of the dogs is doing well in her new home, the other succumbed to her health conditions.
