Sting Weathers the Storm 4-3

Adam Ruzicka scored the overtime winner as the Sarnia Sting beat the Storm 4-3 in Guelph Sunday night.

The win improves the Sting's record to 18-4-1 with 37 points, passing the Sault Ste. Marie Greyhounds for first in the OHL West Division.

Guelph did score first at 11:06 in the first period, on a short-handed goal from Isaac Ratcliffe.

The Sting responded with two straight goals in the second period. Ruzicka put his first one in the net at 16:39, followed 47 seconds later by a goal from Curtis Egert. Curtis McFadden tied the game for the Storm just before the end of the period to leave the score at two-all.

Sarnia briefly regained the lead shortly after the start of the third period when Jamieson Rees found the net. Ryan Merkley responded for Guelph later in the period with his seventh goal of the season to force the overtime period.

Ruzicka's winner came at 2:57 in the extra frame.

Justin Fazio stopped 25 shots in goal for the Sting. Anthony Popopich had 37 saves between the pipes for Guelph.

Sarnia hosts the London Knights Wednesday night.

Sarnia police said the investigation began on May 29 after the victim was allegedly attacked by acquaintances at a residence near Tashmoo Avenue and Christopher Drive at Aamjiwnaang First Nation.
