Sting Crush Spirit 5-2

Ryan McGregor scored twice as the Sarnia Sting beat the Spirit 5-2 in Saginaw Saturday night.

The Sting now have 56 points in the OHL West Division and are in second place behind Sault Ste. Marie.

The game was scoreless in the first period and Saginaw outshot the Sting 9-3. Sarnia killed off two penalties in the period and had one unsuccessful power play.

Franco Sproviero broke the tie at 9:49 in the second period with his seventh goal of the year. Jake Goldowski tied the game for the Spirit but McGregor scored his first goal of the game to give the Sting a 2-1 lead after two frames.

Sarnia scored three unanswered goals in the third period to put the game out of reach. McGregor scored his second of the game at 5:54. Connor Schlichting and Jordan Ernst also found the net for the Sting.

Justin Fazio stopped 32 shots in goal for Sarnia. Evan Cormier had 31 saves for the Spirit.

Sarnia travels to Windsor Thursday night to take on the Spitfires.

Two men arrested in Tashmoo Ave. standoff

Sarnia police said the investigation began on May 29 after the victim was allegedly attacked by acquaintances at a residence near Tashmoo Avenue and Christopher Drive at Aamjiwnaang First Nation.
