The Bluewater Angler's will have their first meeting of the new year on Tuesday night and they're excited about what's to come for 2018.
Many ice fishers are already taking advantage of the cold weather as quite a few people have set up their shanties along Sarnia Bay.
President Ed Holubowicz says there's around 8-10 inches of ice, which bodes well for the Ice Fishing Derby.
"It looks like it's going to be good to go this year," says Holubowicz. "Now that there's a good base, it should withstand a few mild days here and there."
The derby will go later in February and it's open to everyone who wants to participate. Last years event had to be cancelled because of the warm weather.
The meeting on Tuesday starts at 7:30 and doors open a 7:00 at the Point Edward Arena and Community Centre, and it will feature guest speakers Scottie Martin and Mike Borovic from the Canadian Fishing Network.
