Hundreds Charged During Festive RIDE Campaign

Ontario Provincial Police charged close to 600 people with impaired driving during the recent Festive RIDE campaign.

The OPP initiative wrapped up January 2 with a total of 587 drivers charged, down from 623 the year before.

Police say 366 drivers were issued warn range suspensions. That's also down from the 2016-2017 campaign when 407 suspensions were given.

In 2017, OPP charged 4,915 drivers with alcohol impaired charges and 238 with drug impaired charges.

Provincial police say 44 people died on OPP patrolled roads in drug and alcohol-related collisions last year.
