Intruder In Home Claims To Be Police Officer

A man has been arrested after an elderly homeowner confronted an intruder in his kitchen who claimed to be a police officer.

Sarnia police were called to a Cecil St. residence at around 2:30am on Monday after a couple noticed their kitchen light was on.

When the man went to check it out, he was confronted by a suspect.

Police say the suspect told the homeowner he was a cop investigating a break and enter and then eventually fled out the back door after grabbing the victim's wallet.

Officers traced the accused to a local coffee shop, but say he had already left the area when they arrived. Police used video surveillance to identify the man and arrested him around 4pm Tuesday.

Ian Lindsay, 24, is charged with break and enter, robbery, personating a peace officer, and breach of probation.

He remains in custody pending a bail hearing.
