A sharp return to winter conditions after record warmth Thursday created slippery roads and reduced visibility across southwestern Ontario Friday.
West Region OPP reported at 2pm that they had responded to over 30 crashes as temperatures dropped and rain changed to freezing rain and snow.
Middlesex OPP say the driver of a transport truck lost control and the rig entered the median ditch at around 9:30am on Hwy. 402 near Strathroy.
Police say the westbound lanes were closed from Centre Rd. to Kerwood Rd. for about two hours.
The driver was not injured.
A jackknifed tractor-trailer also caused a brief closure of eastbound Hwy. 402 at Modeland Rd. in the early afternoon Friday according to the ministry of transportation.
Environment Canada says periods of snow, local blowing snow and flurries will continue Friday afternoon and Saturday with temperatures continuing to drop.
Very cold Arctic air will again take hold with daytime highs around -9 C (16 F) in Sarnia Saturday and Sunday.
Thursday saw a record high temperature of 11.5 C (53 F) set at Chris Hadfield Airport, breaking the previous mark of 11.1 C set in 1975.
