Unattended Cooking Sparks House Fire

Unattended cooking was the cause of the most recent in a series of structure fires this year in Sarnia.

Sarnia firefighters responded just after 9pm Thursday to the 100-block of Julia St. downtown. Flames and smoke could be seen coming from a multi-unit dwelling when crews arrived.

They were able to contain the fire to the kitchen area.

Fire officials say all the residents were able to get out safely thanks to working smoke alarms.

Damage is estimated at $25,000.

Two men arrested in Tashmoo Ave. standoff

Sarnia police said the investigation began on May 29 after the victim was allegedly attacked by acquaintances at a residence near Tashmoo Avenue and Christopher Drive at Aamjiwnaang First Nation.
