2018 Construction Activity Off To A Good Start

Sarnia's construction activity in 2018, is off to a slightly better start than last year.

City hall issued 22 permits worth just over $4.1-million in January. That's just over a million dollars more than January 2017.

The biggest permit was for $1.19-million for an 8,700 sq ft addition at the London Rd. Diagnostic Clinic at 481 London Rd.

Back in September, city council approved a rezoning and official plan amendment, to allow a two storey addition to be built onto the back of the facility.

The new space will accommodate seven new doctors at London Rd. and Norman St.

One of the owners, Dr. John O'Mahony has said he wants to establish a teaching centre for students to expose future doctors to the area.

The clinic currently houses 13 doctors, one pharmacy, diagnostic imaging centre with ultrasound, x-ray, bone density, mammography and a lab.

Other permits include six dwellings on Franco Ave., and a demolition at 252 Christina St. S.
