YMCA Launches 2018 Strong Kids Campaign (GALLERY)

The 2018 YMCA's Strong Kids campaign is looking to raise nearly $235,000 in Sarnia-Lambton.

The fundraiser officially kicked off February 14 with Kel-Gor making a significant donation of $12,500.

YMCA CEO Kathi Lomas-McGee says they want to continue to tell the story and the impact of what Strong Kids is doing.

“The money goes towards reducing economic barriers for children, families and actually all individuals to be able to participate in quality recreation,” says Lomas-McGee.

Kelly Morrison says the program has done so much for her kids over the past three years.

"Sometimes families like mine could not be able to pay for a full membership," says Morrison. "So with the help from the Y and the charities, it's helped big-time."

She says 6-year-old Austin doesn't stop talking about his Judo class at the Y, while 8-year-old Autumn loves doing gymnastics with one her friends from school.

Last year's campaign raised $223-thousand in Sarnia-Lambton and $398-thousand across Southwestern Ontario.

Donations can be made online at www.ystrongkids.ca.
