Truck Exit Being Realigned At Blue Water Bridge

Starting March 1 realignment of the Canada-bound truck exit at the Blue Water Bridge will begin.

Barriers will be installed and signage put up to direct truck traffic leaving the Canadian plaza.

Federal Bridge Corporation spokesperson Andre Girard says the realignment is necessary to allow for the next phase of the demolition of the old administration buildings.

He says they don't expect any negative impact on bridge traffic, both commercial and passenger.

"As is always the case when you put signage up, when you change habits, you do get a week or two of people getting used to the change," says Girard. "We don't foresee any major, or any problem actually, for the traffic flow."

The old commercial building, next to the Canada Border Services Agency traffic operations, is to be demolished this year. It was replaced by the new Blue Water Bridge Corporate Centre in 2009.

The work is part of the bridge master plan that sets out the strategy for redevelopment of the Canadian plaza.

It encompasses both short and long-term planning for bridge and plaza infrastructure.
