New Hope For Mitton Village

About a dozen members of the community have volunteered to help breathe new life into Mitton Village.

The application deadline to sit on a newly established Mitton Village Community Development Advisory Committee was Wednesday, and Deputy City Clerk James Jenkins says he's confident council will be happy with the number of applicants.

Jenkins says Sarnia City Council will review the applications at the February 26 meeting and it's anticipated the committee will be in place by March 19.

"The mandate of the committee is to complete their recommendations within two years," says Jenkins. "After two years council will have an opportunity to extend the lifetime of the committee if they choose to do so."

The revitalization of Mitton Village has been an issue in recent years with the planned closure of SCITS and other smaller business in the area closing up shop, including the Bargain Shop and the 7-Eleven convenience store at Wellington and Mitton St.
