Possible Snowy Start To March

It appears March will come in like a lion for parts of southern Ontario.

Environment Canada issued a special weather statement Wednesday for Sarnia-Lambton and areas to the south and east over to Hamilton and Niagara.

Meteorologist Tyler Hamilton of The Weather Network says they're tracking a strong low-pressure system from Texas that has the potential to produce significant snow.

"Sarnia is right on the northern edge of this system," says Hamilton. "At this point, we could see a swath of over 30 cm (12 inches) of snow in London into the Hamilton region Thursday night into Friday morning."

In its statement, Environment Canada says rain Thursday will likely change to snow late in the day or the evening as colder air moves into the Great Lakes region.

Accumulation of 15 cm (6 inches) or more is possible late Thursday into Friday morning with gusty northeast winds causing blowing snow and poor visibility.

Conditions should improve later Friday morning.
