Hwy. 402 Improvements Planned

Bridge work is set to begin in May at three locations along Hwy. 402 near Sarnia.

Crews will be rehabilitating the eastbound overpass at Front St. and underpasses at Blackwell Sd. Rd. and Waterworks Rd.

Work includes patching the bridge deck, waterproofing, and repairing bridge abutments.

MTO spokesperson Liane Fisher-Bloxam says we won't have to worry about trucks being re-routed through Sarnia.

"At Front St., eastbound non-commercial traffic entering Hwy. 402 from the Blue Water Bridge plaza will be diverted via the Front St. exit and then rejoin Hwy. 402 near the Front St. bridge," says Fisher-Bloxam. "One lane will be maintained for commercial vehicles."

Fisher-Bloxam says Blackwell Sd. Rd. and Waterworks Rd. will be closed during construction, with detours in place.

A contract for the project is expected to be awarded soon, and work is expected to wrap-up before next winter.
