Winter weather has returned with the arrival of March.
Environment Canada's special weather statement remained in effect Thursday for parts of southern Ontario including Sarnia-Lambton.
Snowfall warnings were issued for areas including neighbouring London-Middlesex, Chatham-Kent and Windsor-Essex and winter storm warnings were posted for the Hamilton and Niagara regions.
Meteorologist Geoff Coulson says the low-pressure system out of Texas will track south of Lake Erie with Sarnia being on the northern fringe.
"We'll probably have a couple of centimetres through the early evening hours from the system," says Coulson. "Snow will continue overnight tonight, adding another 5-10 cm overall to the area. Snow may be blowing a bit, not so much being picked up and blown around because it'll be wet snow, but as that snow is falling it can be driven by gusty winds out of the north up to 60 km/h.
Heavier accumulation of 10 cm to 15 cm (6 inches) is possible in east Lambton County.
Coulson says Hamilton, Haldimand County and the Niagara Peninsula will be closest to the centre of the system with areas on top of the escarpment getting close to 30 cm (12 inches) by Friday morning.
Another record high temperature was set in Sarnia Wednesday afternoon when the mercury reached 16.8 C (62 F) at Chris Hadfield Airport, breaking the previous mark of 15.1 C set in 2016.
The temperature plummeted in Sarnia by 12 degrees Wednesday between 3pm and 4pm.
