A Bridge To New Investment

A newly formed alliance supporting innovative technologies on their path to commercialization, is already attracting new companies.

Toronto based BitCity Group, which focuses on the latest technology craze: blockchain, has announced plans to launch its first data processing facility in Sarnia.

The news was shared at the launch of Sarnia-Lambton Innovation Bridge Friday.

Co-Founder and Chief Operating Officer Jill Javier called it a natural fit, after realizing their vision lines up with what other people want to do in this community.

"TransAlta has been a wonderful partner and the Bluewater Energy Park is a great location for us, it fits very well with our vision and what we want to build," says Javier.

She says they plan to start operations this year and employ about 20 people.

TransAlta Commercial Specialist Jim Felton says more announcements are in the works.

"By forming the Innovation Bridge, we ensure that everybody knows about each and every benefit that Sarnia-Lambton has to attract businesses and people to this region," says Felton. "Before, we relied strictly on networking and hope that as we suggested to organizations to meet, that they would act on the recommendation. With Innovation Bridge, we're not leaving it to chance. We're bringing them all into a room and letting them know here's what the region has to offer you."

Lambton College, Western Sarnia-Lambton Research Park, Bluewater Regional Network, Arlanxeo's Bioindustrial Park, TransAlta's Bluewater Energy Park, Bioindustrial Innovation Canada and the Sarnia-Lambton Economic Partnership are involved in Innovation Bridge, founded in 2017.
