Retirement Community At Former St Peter School Inches Forward

After sitting vacant for the last eight years, the wheels are in motion now for a new development on the former St. Peter School property on Maxwell St. at Oxford. St. in Sarnia.

City of Sarnia Planning Director Alan Shaw says local developer Nelmar Holdings has asked for zoning and official plan amendments to allow for a retirement community of more than 100 units.

"The proposal before us is for 103 residential units," says Shaw. "It will come in two phases. The first is for a conversion of the school into 28 units. The second phase is a four-storey addition on the east side of the building."

City council will deal with the request March 19 and public input is being sought.
