Provincial Funding For Water System Upgrade

A joint funding request from four Lambton municipalities has been approved by the provincial government.

Enniskillen, Dawn-Euphemia, Oil Springs and Petrolia will receive $7.1-million in infrastructure funding to pay for improvements to the Petrolia Water Treatment Plant in Bright's Grove.

Petrolia will pick up the remainder of the roughly $8-million cost from water system reserves.

It's the first time in Ontario that four municipalities have made such a joint funding request and been approved.

The treatment plant supplies water to about 12,000 residents.

A construction timeline will be better known once the province makes the official announcement.
