Smoke Alarm Alerts Residents In Farmhouse Fire

Working smoke alarms are being credited with getting a family safely out of their burning home in southeast Sarnia.

Sarnia Fire and Rescue responded to a structure fire on Churchill Line east of Telfer Rd. just after 7:30pm Tuesday night.

Public Education Officer Mike Otis says crews arrived to find smoke and flames coming from the basement of a two-storey farmhouse.

"Due to a quick response by Sarnia Fire Rescue Services, we were able to contain the fire to the basement area of the home," he says.

Otis says the cause of the blaze is still under investigation and a damage estimate is not yet known.
