Wind Storm Damage To Cost City Thousands

Repairs at Sarnia City Hall following last Friday's wind storm will cost about $25,000.

The winds, which topped at 97 km/hr at Sarnia's Chris Hadfield Airport, caught hold of a roof and ripped it off.

"A section of roof flew off the mechanical penthouse on the top floor and landed on a lower roof and punctured the membrane there in a few places," says City Solicitor Scott McEachran. "That was fixed over the weekend. Replacing the new roof up top is scheduled for the week of the 21st."

A window on the first floor and some antennas were damaged as well.

McEachern says the estimate is under the insurance deductible, so the city will be paying for the damage out-of-pocket.
