Man Arrested After Lengthy Petrolia Standoff

A domestic dispute and barricaded person in Petrolia that stretched through the night, ended without incident Wednesday morning.

The OPP say a 22-year-old man, at a residence on Andrew St., had allegedly uttered threats of violence toward two victims, that alluded to the use of weapons.

That drew a large police response that included the West Region OPP Emergency Response Team, crisis negotiators, and the tactical response and canine units.

The investigation began at about 9pm Tuesday, and ended without incident at around 5:30am Wednesday, when the man was arrested.

Police say he will not be identified in order to protect the identity of the victims.

The investigation is ongoing and while the community will see a concentrated OPP presence in the area, police say there is no threat to public safety.

The man arrested had a bail hearing scheduled for Wednesday in Sarnia court on two counts of uttering threats to cause death or bodily harm.
