The St. Clair Region Conservation Authority is offering some new possible locations to build the Children's Safety Village in Lambton County.
General Manager Brian McDougall says they determined with the safety village committee that Lorne C. Henderson Conservation Area in Petrolia wasn't the right fit.
"I would say it was very much a mutual decision when we finally had a chance to sit down with representatives of the safety village and look at some of the concerns or issues that we had identified," says McDougall.
He says space was one of the major factors.
"The fact of the matter is, that even parking was going to proceed to be an issue because we really only have a very small parking area," he says.
McDougall says the conservation authority owns other properties where it may be more suitable.
"In Charles J. McEwen and Wawanosh Wetland Conservation Areas, the safety village might fit on those properties. That's basically what we left the safety village representative with, some ideas as to where else we could look that may be a better fit, might provide the right land base and the right services to make it a success," says McDougall.
He says they've left their ideas with the committee and remain committed to assisting the group if it's interested in establishing the safety village in one of those areas.
