Hot August Nights

Hundreds of hot rods, antiques, muscle cars and souped-up "tuners" will rumble into Sarnia's Canatara Park, Thursday.

It's the Sarnia Street Machines 13th annual Hot August Nights from 6pm until 10pm.

Spokesman Kip McMillan says admission for spectators is by donation.

"The support we get from the community, car owners and the entertainers is amazing," says McMillan. "We get cars from as far away as northern Ontario and the United States. They really enjoy the location. The basin surrounded by trees is just a tremendous location. We get the diehards every year but every year we get a bunch of newcomers as well. We're getting the young guys with their 'tuner' cars but a lot of them are getting into hot rods as well. They're getting into the old cars as well, thanks to shows like web shows 'Road Kill.' They've really elevated everything with hot rods and it's amazing."

Over the past 13 years, the 70-member strong organization has raised almost a quarter of a million dollars for Pathways Health Centre for Children.

Borderline and Scott Manery and the Barnburners will provide the entertainment.

Volunteers from Pathways will be barbecuing hot dogs and hamburgers.
